Homemade radios & black leather shoes...
Tonight we experienced a humbling moment that will be etched in our hearts forever. We were blessed to share in our dinner (rice & lentils) with our night watchman (Juma) and his twin daughters (4 yo.- Sharon & Valerie)--Sitting in the dim light together with the African sky illuminating our dinner, we gathered around the watchman post and the new makeshift toilet as our neighboring dinner guest. Juma is a trick-of-all-trades as he pulled out his homemade radio for our dinner entertainment. He then pointed to his homemade leather shoes that of course he is now going to make for Brett as well. It reminded us that even the little things can be used to bless others as Juma shared with us his thankfulness to providing a dinner for his girls. He said that they had taken bread before they came and that would have been their only food for the evening. As we walk each day to and from our home we witness the flies that befriend each child and the dirt that remains their clothing. Our prayer is that as God gives us consistent interactions that we will not miss the times He gives us opportunities to share his love with others. Something as simple as sharing a meal has given two precious girls a full stomach as they "lala salama" (sleep well) for the next day.
