Running the race.

"Do you not know that in a race all the runners compete, but only one receives the prize? So run that you may obtain it. Every athlete exercises self-control in all things. They do it to receive a perishable wreath, but we an imperishable. So I do not run aimlessly; I do not box as one beating the air. But I discipline my body and keep it under control, lest after preaching to others I myself should be disqualified." 1 Corn. 9:24-27.

We were reminded today of the great power of discipline and the rewards of a life spent in consistent regimen. Watching Beijing Olympic Gold Medalist compete for another title of representing Kenya in the Berlin World Championships (in Aug.) was an opportunity that we were fully engaged in. We spent the day with some of our runners and it was such a rare moment to watch the trials with professional athletes. It amazes us the intensity of these runners- 400m, steeplechase, 1000m, javelin,etc.- we watched with focus as the crowd raised and cheered upon the turn of their favorite competitor to cross the finish line . It is a great sport of crowd involvement yet such an individual strain as he/she sprints to the finish. We were part of the World Championship Track finals today among some of the greatest athletes in the world- what a perfect day for us!
