I look upon the lives of the children who have captured our hearts and tears overflow in gratitude of their testaments of provision and of tender care from the Lord's hand. As David proclaimed, the Lord created our inmost beings. I pray that as birdseed is surrounded by these children, that the Lord can already be cultivating compassion and service to others into his/her being. As he/she is surrounded by a people who lean upon the possession of a life spent with the Lord and not dependent upon happiness of material rewards, that birdseed will know the Lord fully- that he/she will comprehend the height and the breadth of the Lord. As we sit amidst a hurting people, who's struggles are real and grave at times, I think of Manning's words- "The child of God knows that the graced life calls him or her to live on a cold and windy mountain, not on the flattened plain of reasonable, middle-of the road religion." We know that this miracle of life is fully the Lord's and we pray that he/she will be bold to weather the cold and windy mountains of life and be graced by all of the power the Lord grants His children to endure in steadfastness the journey.
Young stated "you have to take the time to prepare the soil if you want it to embrace the seed." Right now, our little birdseed is being prepared- in the inmost being by the Lord's Hand- and our greatest prayer is that he/she will embrace the seeds planted by Him. May this season of pregnancy here grant us both the vision of the true meaning of life and the true depiction of parenthood- that this little one is not for my 'taking' but rather for our God granted stewardship and that this child will be given back to the Lord- may this season of development amidst such a humbling people group be preparing the soil of his heart to love others deeply and fully- always investing in the relationships of life.
